Diners Club® Founder Honored with Induction into the Business Travel Hall of Fame
“It was 1949. Frank McNamara, a New York businessman was dining with clients, as he did many nights. This night was different. At the end of the meal, when he reached for cash to pay the check, he realized that he had left his wallet in his other suit. Certainly, this must have been an embarrassing moment and one that most would rather soon forget. Instead, Frank McNamara had an insight. He imagined something simple, yet entirely new. One charge card. Many restaurants. One bill” – Sheryl Yasger, Vice President of Global Ad, Brand and Marketing at Discover Global Network and Diners Club International.
Frank McNamara’s insight was the Diners Club Card, and to honor his achievement, he was recently inducted into the Business Travel Network Hall of Fame. Sheryl Yasger provided an introduction and inducted McNamara posthumously at the Business Travel Network (BTN) Group’s annual event on December 5, 2016 at The St. Regis New York.
Every year since 2011, the BTN Group has recognized and inducted a select group of some of the most influential executives in the business travel industry who have shaped today’s business travel landscape and created lasting legacies. McNamara’s legacy transformed an idea into a global revolution with international presence in more than 185 countries and territories. He was a pioneer of a revolutionary new product for the financial industry in 1950, that has changed the world.
Diners Club International® celebrates our founder, Frank McNamara, on this exceptional achievement!
