Destination Spotlight – Rome

Maybe it’s true that all roads lead to Rome, but they don’t lead to all of Rome’s districts. Tourists understandably flock to the Pantheon, Colosseum, and St. Peter’s Basilica, among other world-famous sights, while lesser-known treasures often remain undiscovered. That’s a shame because Rome hides its share of incredible surprises in plain view, as long as you’re willing to veer even slightly off the beaten path.

Passeggiata

Passeggiata (an evening stroll) down Via del Corso used to be a venerable local tradition until tourists found out and joined in the fun. Nowadays, this 1-mile-long street is busy and very touristy but still joyful, especially in its northern stretch, which is closed to traffic. You will see lots and lots of shops for every wallet, delicious gelato stores, and amazing street artists and acrobats competing for your tips.

Church of St. Louis of the French

Walk inside this church in Navona and you will reward yourself with three Caravaggio works: The Calling of Saint Matthew, The Inspiration of Saint Matthew, and The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew. The interior of the church is stunning and there are other artworks inside that are nothing short of magnificent.

Nuovo Mercato Esquilino

When you want to take a break from art, history, and old-world architecture, head to Esquilino. Esquilino is a melting pot of Rome, its most diverse and multi-ethnic neighborhood, and where else if not here would you find the food from all corners of the world!

Taste of Roma

Taste of Roma is an annual food and drink festival held in the celebrated Auditorium Parco Della Musica. It will take place on September 21-24. 18 superstar chefs will cook for you while renowned sommeliers and mixologists will work their magic to quench your thirst.
