Diners Club International® hosted clubmembers from across the globe October 2 – 6, 2022 in Girona, Spain to participate in their annual 36-hole Pro-Am Classic Golf Tournament. This year’s celebration was particularly special as it marked the 30th anniversary of the Pro-Am Classic for Diners Club. In honor of the anniversary, this year’s tournament was held at PGA Catalunya Golf & Wellness Resort in Girona— whose Stadium Course was voted #1 in Spain and #4 overall in continental Europe in 2019.
Each year, participating clubmembers are selected from local pre-qualifying golf tournaments for a one-of-a-kind golfing experience, complete with luxury accommodations and exceptional dining experiences. It provides an opportunity for attendees to meet others from around the world, building a sense of camaraderie through their mutual love of golf, dining and travel. In addition to the 36-hole tournament, this year’s Pro-Am Classic featured a poolside reception at the resort, a Spanish fiesta, and an official gala and prize-giving ceremony. The Spanish fiesta, held the second day of the event, featured a full multi-course meal curated by the Roca Brothers, who are known for inventive variations on traditional Catalan recipes and their award-winning restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca.
“We were so excited to have clubmembers and partners from across the globe join us to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Diners Club International Pro-Am Classic in Girona, Spain,” said Diane Offereins, President of Payment Services at Discover® Global Network. “This milestone anniversary offered a unique forum and one-of-a-kind experience to drive camaraderie and new friendships through our collective love of golf and Diners Club. Since the tournament first began in 1991, it has welcomed participants from across the globe, and we look forward to many more Pro-Ams to come.”
First and Second prizes for this year’s competition went to the two participating teams from Slovenia. To round out the leaderboard, a South African team finished third, a team from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) finished fourth, and an Ecuadorian team finished fifth. Diners Club International also provided the following individual awards as part of the main competition:
- Longest Drive Ladies: Etheyl Nyembe, South Africa
- Longest Drive Men: JP Le Roux, South Africa
- Nearest the Pin Ladies: Carmen Remolina, Peru

The 30th anniversary of the Pro-Am Classic also provided a great opportunity to highlight Dine for Change, Diners Club International’s global corporate social responsibility initiative which empowers individuals to take action through local partnerships and initiatives that help support sustainability and the reduction of food waste in their communities. The PGA Catalunya Golf & Wellness Resort, where the 30th anniversary of the Pro-Am Classic took place, has received numerous awards for environmental sustainability, including the IAGTO Sustainability Award for Nature Protection and was a finalist at the 2022 GEA Awards for the Environmental project of the year. All the dining experiences were also sourced with seasonal local produce.
From the Spanish fiesta to the gourmet dining experiences and competition itself, Diners Club International was honored to welcome clubmembers for this special 30th anniversary event. With teams and participants from around the world, it was exciting to see the global span of the Pro-Am coming to life again after a two-year hiatus. Diners Club thanks all clubmembers and franchise partners who attended and looks forward to next year’s event, which will include adjustments to the course of play, enhancing the tournament experience. The DCI Pro-Am will be held again at the PGA Catalunya Golf & Wellness Resort with final dates to come.
