Bangkok: Pathum Wan District

The Pathum Wan District is one of the youngest in Bangkok. Although the region is best known for shopping, it offers much more in terms of culture ranging from hundred-year-old Buddhist temples to modern art galleries. Here are just a few attractions to check out while you are there.

WHAT TO SEE

The Erawan Shrine

With its central location and beautiful craftsmanship, it's no surprise that the Erawan Shrine is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. This beautiful Hindu shrine was originally constructed in 1956 to ward off bad karma but has since become a mainstay attraction in the local community.

Wat Pathum Wanaram

The Pathum Wanaram temple is a perfect example of Bangkok's past blending with its future. Juxtaposed between two towering malls, this quaint, 160-year-old site is one of Bangkok's oldest Buddhist temples, containing the ashes of many Thai Royal family members.

Chulalongkorn University

You don't need to be a student to appreciate Thailand's oldest and most prestigious university. Established in 1917, Chulalongkorn University is scattered with historical artifacts and architecture that make it a pleasure to walk through.
